A warm up for the cycling season

The 9th Tour Orihuela kicks off today. This is a three day cycle race taking in many of the municipalities of the Vega Baja.

The first stage will start from the Glorieta in Orihuela and is scheduled to finish at about 6pm. The 90 kilometre race will take in Campaneta, Granja de Rocamora, Cox, Callosa de Segura, Redovan finishing in Benferri.

The second day will be split into two parts. The first will be a 68 kilometre race from Benferri to the Avenida Duque de Tamames in Orihuela. This will be followed at 4pm by a 5km individual time trial starting at the Water Palace next to Ociopía.

On the final day riders will start at the Arbor Gabriel Miró and will climb the mont San Miguel. Along with that climb, riders will also take in the hills of the Hondón.

There are a range of prizes on offer to various age groups along with the overall winner and winners of the mountain sprints.
