A car that literally sips fuel

With an economic crisis biting at our heels and finite reserves of oil in the world, a car that can run for a thousand kilometres on one litre of fuel may seem like a dream.

But that is what a group of students at the Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH) in Elche have produced. With a 25 cubic centimetre engine, a top speed of 30 km per hour, a 3.2m x 60cm x 50cm body  and a seating capacity of one, we are unlikely to see one on the roads. However, it does demonstrate that, with skilful engineering, fuel savings are possible.
