Thick black smoke

At 2pm yesterday we heard an explosion followed by a cloud of thick black smoke coming from the other side of the lomo. Apparently the cause was a fire in a warehouse at Correntias on the Cv95 to Orihuela.

The fire devastated the warehouse which stores irrigation pipes and forced the evacuation of adjacent houses. Fortunately all 40 workers were out of the factory for their lunch break at the time the explosion took place so nobody was injured.

The neighbours did fear for their houses though as the flames which rose above them were being fanned by the wind. The greatest risk was from the toxic smoke as plastics and solvents burnt.

Hi Keith and Pam, we were at Villas Andrea and left that day, I am glad to find out what the explosion and smoke was and relived no-one was killed as we heard lots of sirens. We can only visitBigastro as we have commitments in England but great to come across your info, Keep up the good work, Alan and Heather
